A community-run sanctuary near Serowe reintroducing black and white rhino to Botswana, with guided tracking drives and walks.

Khama Rhino Sanctuary was established in 1992 near Serowe as a community-run response to the near-total loss of Botswana's rhino population to poaching, reintroducing both black and white rhino to a fenced 8,500-hectare sanctuary of Kalahari sandveld and savannah. Guided game drives and walking trails, led by community-trained guides, offer close sightings of rhino alongside giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and over 230 recorded bird species, with proceeds directly supporting the surrounding Serowe community through the sanctuary's trust. As one of Botswana's most successful community conservation stories, a visit here supports grassroots rhino protection as directly as any safari in the country.
