A wildlife haven in the heart of Namibia, renowned for its abundant wildlife and dramatic landscapes. Explore vast salt pans, open savannahs, and watering holes teeming with elephants, lions, giraffes, and rhinos. Experience thrilling game drives and witness unforgettable wildlife encounters amidst the untamed beauty of Africa's premier safari destination.
A full-day guided safari through Etosha National Park — one of Africa's greatest game reserves and home to a remarkable concentration of large mammals in an accessible, well-roaded landscape. The name 'Etosha' means 'Great White Place' in Oshindonga, referring to the 4,731 km² salt pan at the park's centre — a flat, white expanse so vast it is visible from space, and which creates the extraordinary game-viewing conditions Etosha is famous for: with surface water absent from most of the pan, virtually all the park's wildlife must visit the perimeter waterholes — which are permanent, predictable, and in many cases visible from comfortable hides or vehicle viewpoints. The full-day route from Okaukuejo or Namutoni camp covers the western and eastern sections of the park respectively, visiting multiple waterholes at their peak activity periods: Okondeka and Aus in the morning for lion and elephant activity; Gemsbokvlakte for large breeding herds of oryx and zebra; Halali's waterhole for midday giraffe; and Fischer's Pan (in the wet season) for flamingos. Black rhino, which are nocturnal and shy, are most reliably seen at the lit waterholes at Okaukuejo and Halali in the evening. Over 340 bird species recorded in the park. Park entrance fees included.
The animals that make Etosha famous do not stop when the sun goes down — they simply become harder to see, which is exactly what makes the night game drive one of Etosha's most rewarding experiences. Operated by NWR (Namibia Wildlife Resorts) from Okaukuejo, Halali, and Namutoni camps aboard open vehicles with powerful spotlights, the night drive covers the park roads immediately surrounding the camps during the 2-hour window after sunset. The spotlight technique — scanning the bush slowly and watching for the eye-shine reflection (eyeshine) of animals — reveals the park's nocturnal residents that are simply absent from day drives: the large-spotted genet, a sleek and beautiful small carnivore; the African civet, unmistakable in its black-and-white spotted coat; the shy bat-eared fox foraging for insects; porcupine trundling along the road edge; brown hyena investigating waterholes for lion kills; and on exceptional nights, leopard moving between waterholes or hunting along the road edge. The lit waterhole at Okaukuejo is the acknowledged best location for black rhino sightings — these critically endangered animals visit to drink between 20h00 and midnight with near-nightly regularity during dry season. Maximum vehicle occupancy applies; advance booking from camp reception required.
A dedicated vehicle-based photography session at Etosha's most productive waterholes, timed to the optimal light of early morning (06h00–09h00) and late afternoon (15h30–18h00) when the golden-hour light is at its most flattering and animal activity at the waterholes is at its peak. Your guide, experienced in wildlife photography and animal behaviour, positions the vehicle for optimal angles, explains the behavioural cues that signal when an animal is about to drink, charge, or interact with another species, and assists with camera settings for bright-sky backlit situations, dust clouds, and fast-moving subjects. Etosha's waterholes are particularly productive for multi-species interaction photography: elephant herds arrive while zebra and wildebeest are already drinking, creating natural territorial confrontations; lion prides claim the waterhole at dawn and are reluctant to leave even as the heat builds; oryx and giraffe negotiate the awkward geometry of drinking — both must spread or bend their legs dramatically to reach the water. Suitable for photographers at all levels from smartphone to professional DSLR. Vehicle and driver provided; guests bring their own camera equipment. Min 2 pax.
