A remote cluster of Kalahari salt pans in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, reachable only by 4x4 and known for unfenced wild camping.

Mabuasehube — "red land of short grass" — forms the remote southeastern section of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a cluster of fossil salt pans ringed by red dunes deep in the Kalahari, reachable only by 4x4 on deep sand tracks. Its isolation and lack of permanent water make for an unpredictable but rewarding wilderness experience: black-maned Kalahari lion, cheetah, brown hyena and gemsbok gather at the pans in the dry season, while self-drive visitors camp unfenced among them at basic sites with no facilities beyond a long-drop toilet. Mabuasehube remains one of Southern Africa's last true self-drive wilderness experiences, visited by only a handful of travelers at any time.
