A 3,000-hectare conservation and education reserve south of Gaborone, with rhino, cheetah and wild dog on easy half-day game drives.

Mokolodi Nature Reserve lies just south of Gaborone, a 3,000-hectare community and educational reserve founded in 1994 to connect Botswana's urban population with conservation close to home. Game drives and walking trails take in giraffe, zebra, white rhino, cheetah and a resident pack of African wild dog, while the reserve's education centre hosts thousands of Botswana schoolchildren each year for hands-on conservation lessons. A sanctuary for injured and orphaned wildlife, a restaurant overlooking a waterhole, and horseback safaris add further reasons Mokolodi remains one of the most popular half-day trips from the capital.
